Intermittent non-axial dipolar-field dominance of twin Laschamp excursions

چکیده
Abstract Geomagnetic excursions represent the dynamic nature of geodynamo. Accumulated palaeomagnetic records indicate that such are dominated by dipolar-fields, but exhibit different structures. Here we report a record from varved sediments Lake Suigetsu, central Japan, which reveals fine structures in Laschamp Excursion and new post-Laschamp excursion coincides with Δ 14 C maxima. The record’s high-resolution chronology provides IntCal20 mid-ages varve-counted durations. Both comprise multiple subcentennial directional-swings. Simulations filtering effects on sediment-magnetisations demonstrate this replicates most features existing, lower-resolution records, including apparent clockwise open-loop virtual geomagnetic pole pass. poles during ‘swing’ phases make four clusters centred hemispherically-symmetric regions, three encompass associated recorded lavas at various locations. stationary dipolar-field sources under each cluster should have intermittently one after another excursions.

Geomagnetic field behavior during the Iceland Basin and Laschamp geomagnetic excursions: A simple transitional field geometry?
[1] We present four new records of the Iceland Basin Excursion (IBE) and five new records of the Laschamp Excursion (LE) obtained from rapidly deposited marine sediments in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Nordic Seas, the Gulf of Mexico, the South China Sea, and the southern Indian Ocean. Marked minima in relative paleointensity correspond with the paleomagnetic directional changes associated wit...
متن کاملARTICLES Proterozoic low orbital obliquity and axial-dipolar geomagnetic field from evaporite palaeolatitudes
Palaeomagnetism of climatically sensitive sedimentary rock types, such as glacial deposits and evaporites, can test the uniformitarianism of ancient geomagnetic fields and palaeoclimate zones. Proterozoic glacial deposits laid down in near-equatorial palaeomagnetic latitudes can be explained by ‘snowball Earth’ episodes, high orbital obliquity or markedly non-uniformitarian geomagnetic fields. ...
متن کاملTwin axial vortices generated by Fibonacci lenses.
Optical vortex beams, generated by Diffractive Optical Elements (DOEs), are capable of creating optical traps and other multi-functional micromanipulators for very specific tasks in the microscopic scale. Using the Fibonacci sequence, we have discovered a new family of DOEs that inherently behave as bifocal vortex lenses, and where the ratio of the two focal distances approaches the golden mean...
متن کاملIncomitance and Eye Dominance in Intermittent Exotropia
Purpose To determine if the deviation angle changes in subjects with intermittent exotropia as they alternate fixation between the right and left eye in primary gaze. Methods In this prospective observational cohort study, 37 subjects with intermittent exotropia were tested for evidence of incomitance. The position of each eye was recorded with a video tracker during fixation on a small centr...
متن کاملThe effect of shoulder abduction angles, shoulder dominance and non-dominance and external loading on shoulder muscles co-contraction ratio in overhead athletes and non-athletes
The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of shoulder abduction angles, dominant and non-dominant arm and external loading on co-contraction ratio during arm abduction in scapular plane in overhead athletes and non-athletes. 10 swimmers, 10 handball players and 10 tennis players and ten non-athletes voluntarily participated in this study. Electromyography activity of shoulder muscles ...
